FORMAT11 Open Submissions, receiving applications NOW

'Right Here, Right Now' Exposures from the public realm
Artists working with or about photography and related media are invited to submit proposals for exhibitions or events, including new or existing works for exhibition or presentation as part of the EXPOSURE section of the festival. These opportunities are open to any artist/photographer based in the UK or Internationally.

The EXPOSURE exhibitions for FORMAT11 will be held in 30 venues throughout Derby city centre. Selected artists will be included in the FORMAT11 brochure, website, catalogue and be profiled as part of the festival. .

All applications must be received by 12 midnight (UK GMT) 10th June 2010.

Copyright And Orphan Works: A Talk by Nick Dunmur and Demon Lee
Monday 14th June 2010, 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Nick will be giving the latest information on orphan works, the Digital Economy Bill, moral rights, and metadata removal. Nick is a non-executive director of the Association of Photographers (AOP), one the founding members of Pro Imaging he also represents them on the board of the British Photographic Council.

Demon Lee commenced trading under the name of 'Demon' Photography in 1985 which later developed into an internet based business model and is ranked 1st on the front page of Google. Demon works predominately in the Film & TV Industry as a 'Stills Photographer' providing images to film & television production companies for PR pictures, posters and DVD covers.

Dewi Lewis: Dewi Lewis Publishing

Founded in 1994 Dewi Lewis Publishing is internationally known for its photography list. Its authors include a number of the leading British and international photographers such as William Klein, Martin Parr, Simon Norfolk, Fay Godwin, Tom Wood, Sergio Larrain, Frank Horvat, Susan Lipper, Claudio Edinger and Bruce Gilden. The aim of the company is to bring to the attention of a wider public, accessible but challenging contemporary photography by both established and lesser known practitioners. www.dewilewispublishing.com

Bridget Coaker: Troika Editions
Wednesday 16th June 2010, 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Bridget is a picture editor based in London, where she works for the Guardian and Observer newspaper and is Director of Photography for the online photography gallery, Troika Editions. www.troikaeditions.co.uk

Bridget has curated a number of exhibitions, including Unexpected Slough at the Spitz Gallery, London and in 2009 as Festival Curator of the Hereford Photography Festival where she presented the work of European photographers working with the image of the child in Seen but not Heard and the Retrospective of John Bulmer.

Talk by Max Houghton: Editor of 8 Magazine & Foto8
Friday 18th June 2010, 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Foto8 is a London-based organisation that works with photography in print, on line and on display. It publishes 8 Magazine, the award-winning photography biannual. From its inception in 1998 as a website (foto8.com) Foto8 has been a place for photographers to share and develop their stories.

Max Houghton was born in Derby and has found ways to work with photographs since she moved to London in 1989. She is now also Course Leader in MA Photojournalism at the University of Westminster.
