Paul Goodwin

Curator, Urbanist and Researcher

Paul Goodwin is a curator, urbanist and researcher based in London, UK. Paul's work and practice in art and urbanism revolves around the central project of researching, supporting and producing critical spaces for the creative articulation of cultural difference in metropolitan arenas and the culture at large in the UK and internationally. This project involves academic research (in urbanism, contemporary art and museology); curating exhibitions; critical writing; cultural programming and creating multiple platforms for bringing art, ideas and people into creative dialogue.

Currently Paul is Curator of Cross Cultural Programmes at Tate Britain in London. He is also an Associate Research Fellow in urbanism at the Centre for Urban and Community Research (CUCR), Goldsmiths College, University of London. Recent projects have included: "Underconstruction" - an exhibition and book of the same title at Pavillion 28, Hospital Julio de Matos in Lisbon, Portugal, May 2009 - www.underconstruction.cc ; "Re-Visioning Black Urbanism", an ongoing research project at CUCR, Goldsmiths College - www.gold.ac.uk/cucr/research/revisioning-black-urbanism/ ; "The Status of Difference" - a year long platform at Tate in London for artists, critics and writers to investigate the post-multicultural landscape of cultural difference in the visual arts - Speakers have included: Kobena Mercer, Gilane Tawadros, The Otolith Group, Thelma Golden, and Sonia Boyce www.tate.org.uk/britain/eventseducation/talks/thestatusofdifference.htm ; "Conversation Pieces" - a programme of artist talks and gallery interventions that critically engages with Tate Britain's collection from a variety of transdisciplinary and cross cultural artist perspectives.
