Kate is Editorial Director of Material Books and an editor with 10 years experience of working in the publishing industry. She is currently working for Kwani Trust as Associate Editor of the Kwani? Manuscript Project. Previously she was Publisher, Humanities at Palgrave Macmillan, responsible for the direction and strategy of paperback publishing across history, literature, theatre and language. She founded Theatre& – a book series of short, sharp shots for students, theatre-practitioners and theatre-goers. She also commissioned the successful short story anthology A World of Difference, featuring stories from across the globe by authors including Zadie Smith, Rohinton Mistry and Ana Menéndez. Kate is currently working on a PhD about contemporary African writing and collective memory at the University of Sussex. She has lived in Kigali since 2010 where she runs a fortnightly creative writing workshop and works for the Rwanda Book Development Initiative.
