The Goethe-Institut South Africa:
Germany’s globally active cultural institute encourages international cultural cooperation, promotes knowledge of the German language abroad and conveys a comprehensive image of Germany. The work of the Goethe-Institut aims at a deeper understanding between cultures. We engage in a dialogue rooted in partnership, acting with no political affiliations. There are presently over 147 Goethe-Instituts worldwide in 83 countries, 10 Instituts are located in Sub-Saharan Africa. The latter are coordinated and headed by the Goethe-Institut South Africa situated in Johannesburg, as are the 15 Goethe centres across the Sub-Saharan African continent. Our focus is on sustainable development in the cultural fields. Thus, seminars and work-shops are in the lime light of our program, as well as facilitating networks across the Sub-Saharan continent.
