As an art historian Dagara Dakin researches, writes articles and curates ideas that explore the inner layers of cultural identity in the history of contemporary art from the 1960's to the present.
Since 2000, he has worked on different exhibition projects mainly located in France where he lives. He has worked for the “Musée des Arts d’Afrique et d’Océanie”, the Biannual of African photography (Rencontres Africaines de la photographie à Bamako) in 2005 and at the “Cité Nationale de l’Histoire de l’Immigration” (2007-2011) in Paris.
As an art critic, he is the author of numerous articles and contributions on African photography, history, like the collective writing book « L’Afrique en regards » directed by curator Simon Njami, published by Filigranes editions in 2005.
In 2009, he has published in the Sorbonne’s doctoral review a research on the theme of beauty in the works of the Ghanaian photographer Philip Kwame Apagya.
In January 2010, he was the curator of the exhibition« Passés Composés »., at the gallery 59, Rivoli Street in Paris. This photographic exhibition was a dialogue about French Colonial Memories between two photographers who have exhibited at Bamako Encounters in 2005 and 2007, Dimitri Fagbohoun and YoYo Gonthier.
In Accra (Ghana), from november 30th to december the 3rd he particpated as "curator" on the part of Nii Obodai, a ghanean photographer, at the collective exhibition in Accra, that was organised by "Studio Kurtycz," under the title "Neither Black Nor White".
