Mutisunge Michael N. Phoya

Malawian author and filmmaker.

Michael Mutisunge Phoya [Muti] is a Malawian author, and filmmaker, with four (4) book titles to his name, including the best-selling ‘Malawi, Lake of Stars’ (Central Africana 2011). He will recently be published in A Memory this Size and other African Stories (New Internationalist 2013).

He has also produced several films and other internet-based platforms promoting Malawi’s heritage. His ultimate goal is to help Malawi Government’s Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Tourism and the people of Malawi in the sustainable promotion of Malawi’s heritage.

Among other accolades, he was the 2011 Moving Africa Scholar, a pan-African exchange program of the Goethe-Institut, which allows artists to travel to cultural festivals on the African continent.

He is a Committee Member of the Society of Malawi *, which promotes interest in literary, historical and scientific matters of Malawi.
