Advisor, Creative and Cultural Economy, Arts Group, British Council

With rich experience in international cultural policy and development, Carly is the Creative and Cultural Economy Advisor at the British Council, and currently stands as one of UNESCO’s Technical Experts for Cultural Governance. Based in Kenya for over three years, Carly was creative consultant for the United Nation’s Global Partnerships Initiative (GPI) for Urban Youth in Africa and designed a series of World Urban Cafés across East and Central Africa. She was also instrumental in UN-HABITAT’s Messengers of Truth project, bringing together socially committed artists, youth and representatives of the music industry to raise awareness on the positive role of the global Hip-Hop movement. Carly remains particularly interested in the potential of the creative sectors to create common grounds, strengthen institutional capacity, enhance intercultural understanding and assist processes of economic empowerment.
