Since 1990, African Film Festival, Inc. (AFF) has been pursuing its mission of promoting knowledge and understanding of African culture; enhancing opportunities and visibility for African media artists; and facilitating dialogue among African media artists, African audiences, and their international counterparts.
In addition to the annual New York African Film Festival (co-presented by The Film Society of Lincoln Center and co-hosted by the Brooklyn Academy of Music), AFF is also known for the AFF national traveling series, which visits 13 US cities every year; frequent community-based screenings in the New York metropolitan area; the Young Adult Education Program in partnership with New York-area high schools; and AFF's network of resources for film professionals, viewers, and cinephiles.
Though the majority of its work is focused on audiences within the United States, AFF also has a growing international presence. Its international programs include co-presentations with partners in Brazil, Jamaica, Australia, Russia, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Additionally, AFF will be implementing a long-term cultural arts program in Sierra Leone, to begin in 2011.
