Silvia Karman Cubiñá

Director and Chief Curator, Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach, U.S.A.

Silvia Karman Cubiñá has been the Director and Chief Curator of the Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach, U.S.A., since October 2008. The founding director of The Moore Space from 2002 to 2008, an internationally renowned Miami-based contemporary art venue, there she organised a series of exhibitions including “French Kissing in the USA” (2007), “Clamor, Allora & Calzadilla” (2006) and “Hernan Bas” (2004-2005).

As an independent curator, Silvia Karman Cubiñá has worked on exhibitions such as “Allora & Calzadilla, Landmark”, a site-specific installation at Escuela de Artes Plásticas, San Juan, Puerto Rico (2003). This project travelled to the Tate Modern, London, and was included in the “Commonwealth” exhibition. She was consulting curator of “Javier Cambre: Habitat en Transito Piñones” for the 2002 Biennial Exhibition of The Whitney Museum of American Art.

Silvia Karman Cubiñá has lectured internationally, and has participated in numerous grant panels and award selection committees. She was on the jury panel of the Guggenheim Museum’s Hugo Boss Award 2006. In 2007, she was a finalist for the Walter Hopps Award for Curatorial Achievement, and was one of the ten fellows attending the prestigious Center for Curatorial Leadership program in New York.
