SUD 2010

Douala city, a laboratory of urban art in Africa

SUD2010, the urban art festival organized by doual’art in collaboration with ICU Art Projects took place in Douala, Cameroon, from 4 to 11 December.

Artistic Director Simon Njami and co-curators Elvira Dyangani, Koyo Kouoh and Didier Schaub brought together a number of local and international artists including Philippe Aguirre, Kader Attia, Bili Bidjocka, Mariela Borello, Ties Ten Bosch, Loris Cecchini, Aliette Cosset & Isabel Forner, Lucas Grandin, Aser Kash, Christina Kubisch, Salifou Lindou, Ato Malinda Younes Rahmoun, Tracey Rose, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Kamiel Verschuren and Herve Yamguen.

First held in 2007, SUD addresses urban-related issues and aims to foster collaborations between artists, communities, architects, urban planners, writers, designers, and curators. The second edition of this growing triennial proposed to explore the theme of "water in the context of the city". Building on from a series of preparatory projects entitled “Liquid Projects” developed since 2008, SUD2010 offered a variety of site-specific interventions ranging from the most conceptual to the most socially-engaging and community-focussed pieces. These permanent installations will make their marks on the urban landscape and the lives of Douala people.

An extensive review and picture gallery will be published on eye.on.art very soon.
