Artist and feminist activist Fatoumata Kandé Senghor lives and works in Dakar, Senegal and makes works in various media including performance, film, video and the written word. She is the first artist-in-residence at the South London Gallery from October to December in the Outset Artists' Flat
As part of her residency in London at the South London Gallery (January- March 2011, exact dates to be confirmed), Senghor introduces a screening of her film, Man Keneki (Me, the Other), the story of two brothers who travel between America and their native Senegal, in a film which explores belonging, history, community and identity. The screening is followed by a discussion around the issues raised in the film and in the artist's new project, on young people in African cities, with invited guests.
Please note that the screening of Fatoumata Kandé Senghor (dir.), MAN KENEKI (Me, the Other) will not be screened on October 29th 2010 as formerly anounced. It be rescheduled, pending confirmation of the artist's visit to the UK from Senegal.
