Dak’Art 2008 laureates exhibit at Fondation Blachère
Fondation Blachère announces the launch of the exhibition Dak’Art 2008 - Fondation Blachère Prize for Emerging Artist awarded at the 8th Dak’Art Biennale in May 2008.
The prize winner: Ngoor (Senegal) and the nominees: Samba Fall (Senegal), Tchalé Figueira (Cape Verde), Boubacar Touré Mandemory (Senegal) and Vuyisa “Breeze” Yoko (South Africa) were selected by a jury composed of Virginie Andriamirado (Madagascar/France), Fortuné Bationo (Ivory Coast), Raphael Chikukwa (Zimbabwe), Moulim Elaroussi (Morocco), Christine Eyene (Cameroon/UK), Ndeye Rokhaya Gueye (Senegal) and Roger-Pierre Turine (Belgium).
Fondation Blachère Prize for Emerging Artist was the outcome of an art critics residency coordinated by Pierre Jaccaud, Artistic Director of the Fondation Blachère, held on Gorée Island from 9 to 15 May 2008. The residency also resulted in the "Gorée Manifesto" collated by critic Roger-Pierre Turine, consisting of a series of recommendations to Fondation Blachère with regard to collaborations with African artists and art professionals on the continent.
Alongside the exhibition will be showcased Afrik’art, a film documenting Dak’Art 2008, produced by PH Prod and broadcasted on Canal+ Horizon.
The exhibition is accompanied by a booklet co-edited by Africultures and Fondation Blachère.
