The Biennale of Sydney's exhibitions, education and public programs, artist residencies and publications act as a cultural catalyst by encouraging innovation, experimentation and the communication of ideas. Our charter is to provide fresh curatorial perspective and independent artistic vision, and to act as a counterbalance to traditional institutionally driven programs, exhibitions and publications. The 18th Biennale of Sydney, curated by Artistic Directors Catherine de Zegher and Gerald McMaster is entitled 'all our relations', and will be open to the public from 27 June – 16 September 2012, marking the organisation's 39th Anniversay.

Born in Bonn, in 1985, of Kenyan and German parentage, Philippa Ndisi-Hermann is a Kenyan filmmaker and photographer. Philippa defines herself as an aesthete, an artist, an African. In 2009, Philippa directed and produced her first feature documentary, " I’m Not Dead Yet." The film was edited by Khalid Shamis. A shorter version of the film was cut in June 2011, "Animals and Landscapes, " edited by Chris King. In April 2011, The Sundance Institute exhibited a selection of her work in New York City at MoCADA (The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Art). The series of images were taken in Lamu at the Sundance Institute’s first theatre lab in East Africa. The series was exhibited in Nairobi in August 2011. Philippa recently ventured into directing music videos. She produced " Room for Me " (2011) by Just A Band & Jahcoozi and " Believer " (2012) by Jahawi and Kevin Samuel. Philippa is working towards her first narrative feature film, " Two Princes." Production for Two Princes is set for 2012, the film will be shot largely on the Islamic island of Lamu. LEBOGANG MOKHOMOLE Lebogang Mokhomole a.k.a Queen’o’Hearts is a fashion designer/ image consultant and model hailing from the beautiful dusty streets of Limpopo, Phokoane village. “After realising my passion and talent for fashion designing, I moved to Gauteng, Soweto to study and pursue a career in the fashion industry. I graduated from one of the top fashion schools in S.A, Sew Africa. After graduating I started designing and sewing clothes for myself, when people noticed they were interested in some of my designs and that eventually built up a business. The label I’m currently developing is called Egzabier meaning KING of kings clothing line”. It has been a long journey of development for Egzabier which caters for both woman and man’s clothing. The label has already made an impact seeing that it already has ambassadors in the music scene and is planning to work with vibrant movers and shakers in the industry and in the world. This is a label to look out for in the not so far future seeing that Lebogang is currently pursuing a degree in management sciences with Unisa. We look forward to having future filled Egzabier clothing.

Mark Coetzee is Program Director of PUMAVision and Chief Curator of puma.creative. He is originally from Cape Town, South Africa. Before joining PUMA, he was the director of both the Contemporary Arts Foundation and the Rubell Family Collection (RFC) from 2000 to 2009. He is was adjunct curator at the Palm Springs Art Museum from 2008 to 2009. Committed to education, he served as an adjunct faculty member at the New World School of the Arts, was co-director of the New World School of the Arts Honors Program, and from 2001 to 2009 the director of the Curatorial Training Program. He is a recognized artist in his own right as well an art historian and writer. Coetzee has published extensively on art, writing for journals including the Mail & Guardian, Revue Noire and the Sunday Independent, and publishing over 30 monograph catalogs on various artists. His latest publications include monographs on Hernan Bas, Keith Haring, Eberhard Havekost, and John Stezaker. He has received various grants and awards for his work from foundations such as the Arts & Business Council of Miami of Americans for the Arts, Business & Arts South Africa (BASA), Harry Crossley Foundation, Human Sciences Research Council of South Africa, Maggie Laubscher Foundation, Miami Design Preservation League, Ruth Prowse Foundation, Irma Stern Foundation, Montague White Trust, National Arts Council of South Africa and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. Coetzee studied at the University of Stellenbosch, the University of Cape Town, and the University of Paris-Sorbonne.
